The President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to increase the capacity of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day.

Speaking at a world press conference in Lagos, Dangote said the expansion will boost Nigeria’s energy sector and position the country as a major force in global petroleum refining.

“With this project, we aim to build world-class infrastructure that meets Nigeria’s energy needs and turns the country into a leading player in the global market,” he said.

Dangote added that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to make Nigeria a top exporter of refined petroleum products.

He explained that the expansion reflects confidence in the Nigerian economy and is also a response to rising regional demand for fuel.

“This expansion shows our commitment to support the government’s drive for energy security and industrial growth across Africa,” Dangote added.

The new capacity will make the Dangote Refinery the largest in the world, surpassing India’s Jamnagar Refinery, which processes about 1.36 million barrels per day.

A deal for the expansion has already been signed, according to Dangote, who noted that the refinery’s operations will strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global oil and gas industry.
