The Dangote Group has denied owning the truck involved in the fatal crash at Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, where several people died on Wednesday night.

In a statement on Thursday, the company said investigations confirmed that the vehicle, with plate number JJJ 365 XB, does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.

“The truck involved in the unfortunate incident does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries,” the statement said.

It explained that the vehicle was owned by an independent logistics firm and was not conveying Dangote products but crushed stones in reused sacks bearing different brand names.

Dangote Industries also stated that its trucks are properly branded, tracked, and operated by trained staff under strict safety rules.

“All Dangote trucks carry distinct company markings and fleet numbers that make them easily identifiable,” the company noted.

The group sympathised with the victims’ families and urged the media to verify information before linking accidents to its brand.

“We deeply sympathise with all those affected by the incident and call for proper verification before attributing ownership to Dangote Group,” the statement added.

The company also warned media outlets against using images of Dangote-branded trucks for unrelated accidents.
