Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has joined the ongoing discourse surrounding the legacy of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, urging the late musician’s son, Seun Kuti, to avoid actions that could draw the iconic figure into unnecessary controversy.
In a public statement, Daddy Freeze stressed that Fela’s legacy extends beyond his biological family, describing the late Afrobeat legend as a cultural father figure whose influence belongs to a wide audience.
“Seun Kuti, I love you for life, you’re my brother, but whatever you do, no be only you get Fela o, na all of us get Fela,” he said.
“No do anything to make them insult Fela. Don’t let them drag Fela. Fela is everybody papa, including Wizkid.”
His remarks follow a heated exchange between Seun Kuti and Afrobeats star Wizkid, who have been engaging in online arguments over comparisons to Fela and debates about who best embodies the late musician’s legacy.
The exchange has attracted significant attention on social media and within the music community, reflecting the enduring relevance of Fela’s influence years after his death.
Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most prominent cultural icons, renowned internationally for his music, activism and contributions to political awareness.
Daddy Freeze’s comments have since sparked further reactions online, with many echoing his view that Fela’s legacy transcends family ownership and represents a shared cultural heritage for Nigerians and Africans across the globe.
