Angry residents and commercial motorcyclists went on a rampage in Naka town in Makurdi, Benue State after a policeman allegedly killed a yet to be identified motorcycle operator.
The incident which sparked outrage in the community made residents and motorcycle operators lock down the streets in protest.
The angry protesters reportedly set some areas of the community on fire following the tragic incident that occurred.
An eyewitness said that trouble started after the police officers seized a motorcycle from the rider. He said the motorcyclist colleagues who did not treat the matter with levity joined him and demanded the release of the motorcycle.
The witness said that, in the course of the exchange of words between the commercial motorcyclists and the police, one of the police officers shot dead one of the motorcycle riders.
