The Nigeria Customs Service in Adamawa/Taraba Area Command has seized smuggled goods valued at ₦71.7 million from suspected smugglers between August and September.

Customs Area Comptroller, Mr. Garba Bashir, revealed this on Thursday in Yola, Adamawa State, during a press briefing on the command’s anti-smuggling efforts.

The seized items included 33,595 litres of fuel, suspected to be en route to Cameroon, three vehicles used by the smugglers, 200 bags of foreign flour and rice, and 10 bales of second-hand clothing. Mr. Bashir noted that the seized fuel would be auctioned quickly due to its flammable nature.

Mr. Bashir encouraged his officers to stay alert in the fight against smuggling, saying, “We will not relent in this fight against illegal trade until we bring smuggling activities to ground zero in Adamawa and Taraba states.”

He also urged smugglers to stop their illegal actions, reminding them that smuggling harms the economy. “I advise smugglers to embrace legitimate business,” he said.

Mr. Bashir called for the support of security agencies and local citizens, encouraging them to report smuggling activities to the command through credible information sources.
