The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a truck carrying 250 bags of smuggled foreign rice, hidden inside a specially modified tanker along the Yauri–Kontagora Road in Kebbi State.

The seizure, which took place on August 3, 2025, involved operatives from the Federal Operations Unit Zone B. The rice, valued at ₦20.51 million, was transported to Kaduna for proper inspection.

Comptroller AM Alkali, the Zonal Controller, praised the officers for their professionalism and intelligence, saying the operation was part of ongoing efforts to fight smuggling and protect local industries.

In a separate operation on July 17, customs officials also seized large quantities of unregistered drugs and harmful chemicals. These included 58,740 sachets of unregistered medicaments and 27 cartons of Analgin injection, which were handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Kaduna.

Additionally, three sacks of Riodin chemical containing 990 units were handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency.

Comptroller Alkali urged the public to support the agency’s efforts.

“The fight against smuggling and unsafe products is a duty we all share,” he said.
