Customs intercepts baggage containing loaded pistol at Lagos Airport
The Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday intercepted one Mr. Afolabi Olumide with a pistol loaded with 26 rounds of ammunition in a baggage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by NCS Public Relations Officer, DSC Victor Ogagbor.
Olumide’s arrest was effected by operatives of service who were on routine examination at the ‘D’ wing of the arrival hall around 11.05 am.
Ogagbor said that the passenger, who arrived from Washington DC aboard United Airlines, had earlier been accused by men of the Nigeria Immigration Service for illegally being in possession of two International Passports.
“The importation of the firearm contravenes Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act which is an Absolute Prohibition. NCS MMIA COMMAND has since handed over the suspect and the Arms to the Department of States Services,” the spokesman said.
