The Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has handed over a cache of seized arms and ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The handover ceremony, held in Lagos, reaffirmed the Service’s zero-tolerance policy against arms smuggling.
The Customs Area Controller of the PTML Command, Comptroller Joe Anani, stated the seizures align with the Service’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders while facilitating legitimate trade. The handover was approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
The seized items include five pistols of various makes, one Crossman Pump Master rifle, 132 rounds of Remington live cartridges, 51 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, four 9mm magazines, 40 assorted blank and hollow ammunition rounds, and 118 empty 9mm shells.
Anani explained that the arms and ammunition were discovered on 25 separate occasions during inspections of imported vehicles between 2022 and 2025. Most were concealed in secret compartments within vehicles shipped from the United States.
“These seizures are the result of collective diligence by officers of the command and sister agencies operating at the port. PTML remains a no-go area for unlawful trade under any guise,” Anani said.
He noted that suspects linked to the seizures have been arrested and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
