Afrobeats star Davido faced online scrutiny on Friday after mistakenly directing his anger at Nigerian gospel artiste Tosin Bee during a social media outburst over his child custody case.

The incident followed an emotional court appearance at the Lagos State High Court, Yaba, on Thursday, where Davido reportedly lost patience with a lawyer representing his estranged partner, Sophia Momodu, mother of his daughter Imade.

In a now widely circulated Instagram post, Davido wrote, “@Belachukwu, I disgraced you in the courtroom. I was teaching you your work, you couldn’t even take it and then went on to mention my son. You are a wicked human being. You are the worst lawyer ever.”

Shortly after, Davido reposted a photo of gospel artiste Tosin Bee, mistakenly assuming a connection between the singer and the lawyer. In the now-deleted story, Davido wrote, “And she has a son. Tosin you will live long amen with the rubbish you dey sing. So your son nah musician Bella Chukwu.”

The repost triggered immediate backlash, with fans targeting Tosin Bee’s Instagram page. The gospel artiste quickly clarified the situation.
“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you,” Tosin Bee wrote.

The clarification shifted online discussions, with many users calling for an apology. Some took a lighter view, suggesting the controversy had inadvertently increased Tosin Bee’s visibility.

Late Friday, Davido announced on X that he would withdraw the custody case, clarifying that he never sought full custody but only joint custody. He expressed disappointment over references to his late son during proceedings, describing it as the “lowest blow.”

“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love!” he wrote.
