The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed that an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kundi Dauda Abubakar, sustained injuries after police personnel were ambushed while raiding a suspected criminal hideout in Jahun Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources disclosed that the incident took place around 7:00 a.m. on December 21 at the Atuman Fulani settlement in Jahun LGA.

According to the sources, the raid followed actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of suspects believed to be responsible for an earlier attack on officers at the Divisional Police Officer’s (DPO) quarters in Aujara, Jahun LGA, on November 25, during which a riot gun was carted away.

“Acting on the intelligence, a team of policemen led by ACP Kundi Dauda Abubakar stormed the suspected hideout at Atuman Fulani settlement,” a source said.

The suspects, however, were said to have laid in wait for the officers and launched an attack using arrows.

“During the confrontation, ACP Kundi Dauda Abubakar was struck by an arrow. He was immediately evacuated to Jahun General Hospital, where he received treatment and is currently in stable condition,” the source added.

Further information revealed that two of the suspects were hit by police gunfire during the exchange but escaped despite sustaining gunshot injuries.

Security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen riot gun.
