The Guinness World Record holder for longest horns, Cowboy Tuff Chex on a bull sold for a staggering $165,000 (N59.3million) at a Texas auction.
The bid on the extremely long-horned bull was won by Richard and Jeanne Filip of Fayetteville, Texas at the Hudson Valentine auction in Fort Worth. Cowboy Tuff Chex, a 7-year-old bull made headlines last year when his 101-inch horn spread was confirmed by Guinness World Records as the largest ever.
“We’re going to bubble-wrap him when we get to the ranch,” Jeanne Filip told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Our guys will know: You do not make Tuff do anything he doesn’t want to do. He’s the VIP of the ranch.”
The bull’s former owner, Oklahoma rancher Bob Loomis, said earlier he had expected Cowboy Tuff Chex to sell for up to $500,000. (N179.7 million)
“I didn’t have second thoughts, but I kept trying to justify — that’s a lot of money for one animal,” Richard Filip said. “Then you start taking into consideration, what if there’s an accident going home and he’s gone? It’s a lot of responsibility to take on.”
