Covidiot: Piers Morgan apologizes for breaching lockdown rules during date night with wife

Piers Morgan has admitted to being a Covidiot for a second after being caught without a facemask during a date night with his wife Celia.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was pictured without a mask while trying to board a cab on Saturday night in in London – which is currently in Tier 2.

Local media reported that Covid rules state masks must be worn inside taxis or private hire vehicles. Failure to do so could result in a fine. And while Celia could be seen wearing her mask, Piers appeared to be without.

The GMB presenter, 55, addressed the blunder on air this morning, explaining: “As I pulled away I realised what I had done – I had forgotten my mask. I do think masks matter and I got caught without one.

“I had two [masks] in my pockets but I was chatting to the paps!”

On Sunday morning, Piers also tweeted about the incident, apologising for his mistake.

“I put my mask on seconds after this pic was taken, as the cab moved off.. I should have done it before I got in but ironically, I was chatting to the paparazzi & I forgot,” he tweeted.

When a follower accused him of “making excuses” Piers responded: “I haven’t made an excuse, I just explained what happened. I’m guilty as charged. For a few seconds, I was a Covidiot & I deserve the full wrath of Twitter hell to now descend on me.”
