COVID-19: Katsina now has nine positive cases

Katsina state on Friday evening announced four additional positive cases of COVID-19, thus bringing a total number of such cases in the state to nine.

The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu made the announcement at a press briefing in Katsina.

Alhaji Yakubu who is also the chairman of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee in the state said“We have received four additional positive cases in the state on 16th of April, 2020, making a total of nine. Out of the four new cases, three were from Daura, a community transmission from one of the contacts to the deceased doctor. The other person is from Dustin-Ma.”

The Deputy Governor explained that his committee had received N207.6 million donations from organizations and individuals to curb the spread of the virus in the state.

He also revealed that a group known as the Coalition against COVID-19 had pledged to equip a 200-bed isolation center while the National Lottery Trust Fund had also donated a fully equipped isolation center to the state.

Alhaji Yakubu also reiterated the state government’s s Thursday night new decisions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The decisions include the lockdown of Dutsinma local government area of the state as from Friday and closure of major weekly markets in the state among which were Maiadua, Mashi,Charanchi,Jibia, Dutsinma, Batsari, Kafur, Sheme, Dandume, Zango, Danja, Bakori, Kaita, Kagadama, and Dankama.

The state government had also suspended weekly Friday congregational prayers with effect from next week until further notice and suspended the annual Ramadan public Tafsir and Tarawiy .

The government also suspended activities at the cinema, event centers, and Television viewing centers throughout the state.
