The Kaduna Electric Company [KAEDCO]won’t disconnect electricity consumers in all states under its franchise during the COVID-19 pandemic periods, an official of the company said on Monday.
The Head of Corporate Communication of the KAEDCO, Abdullahi Abdulazeez, while delivering relief materials donated to the Kaduna State Government on Monday said the suspension of the disconnection became imperative because of the lockdown over the corona-virus pandemic.
The relief materials include 500 bags of parboiled rice, 400 bags of semovita, 100 cartons of indomie noodles and 100 cartons of vegetable oil.
Abdulazeez said the total sum of items was worth N30m to be distributed to its franchise which includes Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara state.
He said the relief materials were meant to be distributed as palliatives to cushion the effects of the lockdown over the COVID-19 pandemic on residents of the various states.
Meanwhile, the KAEDCO boss assured the states under its franchised of uninterrupted power supply throughout the COVID -19 pandemic.
Abdulazeez noted that unless the fault was from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, it’s engineers were on ground to ensure there was no power interruption.
This was just as he added that during the lockdown period, the company had suspended disconnection owing from debt being owed by consumers.
He said:
“We have issued statement that we are going to provide sufficient power to residents of Kaduna and I believe a lot of us are now experiencing this. We will continue to do so except if the fault is beyond our control.
“Sometimes Transmission Company of Nigeria will have problems. In the event of that we don’t have any control.
“We will do our best to continue to supply adequate power. Our engineers are ground and are committed to this.
“We have suspended disconnection for now(during this period) because you are sure you are not going to pay for electricity bill until this whole thing is over while staying at home.”
