COVID-19: Gombe tests 3,668 people in two weeks

Gombe State has tested 3,668 people for coronavirus [COVID-19] disease in two weeks, an official disclosed on Monday.

The Chairman of the state’s Taskforce on COVID-19, Prof. Idris Mohammed, who briefed newsmen on the activities of the Taskforce said no state in Nigeria except Lagos carried out such massive tests during the period.

He gave the cumulative positive cases as 410, adding that it was 160 positive cases as at May 30th and indication that there were 250 new cases.

Mohammed stressed that economic activities thrive only when people are healthy enough to run the economy

“Gombe has taken positive steps to curb COVID-19. The massive test is a catalyst to reduce the pandemic in the state,” Mohammed said.

He added,

“Our responsibility is to reduce to minimal, the spread of the virus in the state and as such testing is the determinant to opening up the economy

“The people of the state should not panic, despite the 140 positive cases, the death lhave been low as we recorded only 12 deaths,” the Taskforce boss added.
