Yobe State government has confirmed her index case of coronavirus.
The Chairman of the Committee on Prevention and Control of COVID 19 in the State, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana who is also the Deputy Governor of the State announced that the case is a 29-year-old who is unmarried and lives with his parents.
He is a banker with a new generation bank in Damaturu.
The announcement of the case is coming after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control published Yobe on their website as having her first case.
The patient is said not to have any travel history to any of the COVID 19 high burden state, a situation that has raised serious concern of community spread in the state.
Meanwhile, the staff of the branch have been advised to stay off from office and proceed on self-isolation for 14 days.
Some staff of the bank, who spoke to our correspondent in Damaturu, gathered the Yobe State COVID-19 asked them to stay off the office because of de-contamination.
WuzupNigeria also gathered that the banker has not travelled out of Damaturu in the last eight months.
Some of the staff are expressing reservation on result due to the fact that their colleague has not travelled to any of the high- burden COVID-19 states.
A medical personal at the State Specialist Hospital, who does not want to be mentioned, said:
“If the result of is positive as it is being speculated, and that the suspect did not travel out of the state for that period of time as being said, then there is already community spread of the virus in the state.”
Yobe was one of the three states yet to record any COVID -19 case until Wednesday night when the NCDC confirmed its index case.
