A member of the terrorist group Boko Haram has been sentenced to death by a court in Abuja after being found guilty of involvement in multiple killings across the Northeast.
The judgment is part of the ongoing trial of about 500 suspected terrorists.
On the same day, President Bola Tinubu expressed grief over soldiers who lost their lives while repelling an attempted attack by Boko Haram on a military base in Borno State.
The convicted suspect, Auwalu Samaila, who showed no remorse, received the death penalty after the prosecution proved his role in several Boko Haram operations across communities in Adamawa and Borno states.
Samaila is among the 500 terrorism suspects currently being prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and was arraigned on a six-count charge.
According to the charge marked: FHC/KNJ//CR/122/2026, Samaila, a native of Gulak Village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was the only defendant in the case.
The court sentenced him to death on counts four, five, and six, while counts one and two attracted 25 years imprisonment each.
He also received a 30-year prison sentence on count three.
He was accused of admitting that between 2012 and 2017, in Sabongari Kyambula Village, Gulak LGA, he was a member of Boko Haram, a banned terrorist organisation.
The charges stated that Samaila agreed to receive training in terrorist activities from one Sadiqu Adamu (Kare-kare), a Boko Haram member, including weapons training with an AK-47 in preparation for terrorist acts under the leadership of Yabana at an Izza Boko Haram camp.
The Federal Government also alleged that he took part in attacks in Damboa, Borno State, between 2012 and 2017, during which both civilians and military personnel were killed.
He was further accused of participating in attacks in Gombi and Hong in Adamawa State, where many civilians lost their lives.
Samaila pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him, after which the prosecution presented his confessional statement as evidence.
In the statement, he admitted to transporting female suicide bombers to target locations, stating that the first person he conveyed was Halima, whom he took to Muna Garage in Maiduguri.
