A Kaduna High Court on Tuesday, ordered two brothers, Hamza Jibrin, 27, and Yusuf Jibrin, 24, to be held in a correctional facility over charges of culpable homicide and armed robbery.

The court decision came after the brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Aisha Shagari presided over the case and ordered the brothers’ remand. She adjourned the trial until December 12 for a hearing.

According to Prosecutor James Edward, the incident took place on November 7 along Airport Road, Kaduna. He stated that Hamza and Yusuf, along with two others still at large, allegedly attacked 26-year-old Rabiu Sani while armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons. The group reportedly robbed Sani, taking his HP laptop, two cell phones, wallet with ATM cards, and N30,000 in cash. Tragically, Sani lost his life in the attack.

The charges brought against the defendants include conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide, which are punishable under the Robbery and Firearms Act, according to Edward.

The defense counsel, Habiba Usman, pleaded for bail, assuring the court that her clients would cooperate and not flee. However, the court maintained its order for remand, pending further proceedings.
