An Enugu State Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a neighbourhood security guard, 51 year old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, for the alleged murder of his 19 year old female cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka.

The suspect was arraigned on Wednesday after detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department concluded their probe, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.

The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the development in a statement. He said, “Detectives have arraigned and secured the remand of 51 year old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu… after the conclusion of investigations by the State CID.”

Ndukwe explained that the suspect was arrested on December 1, 2025, after allegedly assaulting the deceased in an incident that later turned fatal. He said, “The suspect was arrested… following an incident in which he violently assaulted the deceased, resulting in injuries that tragically led to her death.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police had immediately ordered a detailed investigation to ensure the case moved quickly to court. According to him, “Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police directed the State CID to conduct a meticulous investigation and ensure that the case was promptly charged to court.”

After the investigation, the suspect was arraigned on a one count charge of murder. The court then ordered that he be remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be sent to the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Ndukwe said, “The Court ordered his remand and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecution, for review and legal advice.”

The Commissioner of Police expressed sympathy to the family of the victim, assuring them that the process was on course. He said, “We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” adding, “Justice is already in motion, as the investigation has been concluded and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly.”

In November, three men, Wasiu Akinwande also known as Olori Eso, Qudus Egbere and Sola Tomiwa, were remanded over their alleged role in the killing of two men during a violent attack in Mushin, Lagos. They were arraigned on a five count charge that included conspiracy to commit murder, murder and membership of an unlawful society.
