Court remands robber who stabbed victim he stripped of N50,000 phone, ATM card

A 22-year-old man, Muyis Shittu, who allegedly stole a phone worth N70,000, on Tuesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Shittu, whose address was not provided, is facing four counts of conspiracy, assault, stealing and possession of dangerous weapons.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some other persons still at large on December1 at No 90, Wuraola Bus stop, Lawanson, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan said that the defendant used a cutlass to slash the face of the complainant, Mr Donatus Ugonna, before stealing his Infinix Hot 10 phone.

He said that the defendant also stole the complainant’s wallet containing an ATM card and N15,000 cash.

Ekhueorohan said the offences contravened Sections 173, 287, 301 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sadiq Bello, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Bello said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until January 13, 2022 for mention.
