A journalist with Ozisa FM in Imo State, Chinonso Ubah, has been remanded in prison by an Owerri magistrate court following his arrest by the police.

The police arraigned the journalist before the magistrate court on Wednesday.

Operatives of the Imo police command arrested Ubah on October 21 for allegedly defaming Aboki Danjuma, the state’s commissioner of police.

He was also accused of cyberstalking and inciting the public to burn the National Open University of Nigeria study center in Mbano.

His case has been adjourned to November 12 at Magistrate Court 5 in Owerri, the state capital.

Recall that in June, operatives of the Nigerian Police Force from the Zone 2 Command, Lagos State, also arrested a journalist and publisher of News Platform, Precious Eze, whose arrest was allegedly instigated by a complaint from a prominent businessman and politician.

Also, in May, a journalist with Foundation for Investigative Journalism, Daniel Ojukwu, was abducted from his house in Lagos by the Nigerian Police Force over a report that alleged that Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, paid 147 million naira (US$106,154) of government money for school construction into a restaurant’s bank account.
