A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined an application by the Nigeria Police Force seeking to stop the planned “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” protest scheduled for Monday, October 20.

Justice Umar, presiding over the matter on Friday, directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to serve the motion on the protest organiser, Omoyele Sowore, allowing him the opportunity to respond to the suit.

The ex parte application, filed under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2202/2025, named Sowore and four others as respondents. The police argued that the planned protest, which is expected to culminate in a march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, could potentially lead to a breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), remains on trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to terrorism.

Justice James Omotosho, who is overseeing Kanu’s case, adjourned proceedings until Thursday, October 23. The adjournment followed the submission of a medical report by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), which concluded that Kanu’s diagnosed health conditions are not life-threatening and confirmed him fit to stand trial.
