A Niger State High Court 6 has ordered the arrest of the Managing Director of Polaris Bank, Omokayode Lawal and the Minna Branch manager for contempt of court.
The presiding judge, Justice Maimuna Abubakar, issued the arrest order Tuesday after the defendants failed to honour the court summons following an allegation of tax evasion to the tune of more than N1 billion.
The Niger State Internal Revenue Service had filed its case through Muhammad Ndayako against the defendants.
Justice Maimuna Abubakar, in her ruling, ordered police officers to effect the arrest of the defendants.
She adjourned the case to December 13, 2024 for the arraignment of the defendants.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, last week issued a bench warrant against the former Managing Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, Ahmed Kuru, over alleged N76bn and $31.5m of fraud.
Justice Mojisola Dada ordered Kuru’s arrest for failing to appear before the court for his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
