An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday sentenced a 45-year-old woman, Yemisi Najimu, to 10 years imprisonment with an option of N70,000 fine for attempted murder.
Delivering judgment, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, said, ‘’What the convict did was reprehensible enough. Therefore, the punishment would serve as a deterrent to her and others who may wish to behave in a similar way in the future.”
The convict was arraigned on a three-count of attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous harm and occasioning harm.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Dolapo Oyewole, told the court that Najimu attempted to murder Bosede Ojo because of the grievous harm and assault.
Oyewole called five witnesses to prove the case and tendered statements from Najimu and the victim.
He said that the defendant committed the offense on Aug. 26, 2019, at No. 20, Afro Akinyede Estate, Odo Ado, in Ado Ekiti.
The prosecutor told the court that Najimu and her son were beating up Ojo’s child, and while trying to stop the fight, the defendant descended on her.
Oyewole said that pregnant Ojo was pushed to the ground, leading to her being abruptly delivered of the baby through a cesarean section.
According to him, the offense contravened Sections 320 (1), 322 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
