Court jails welder over theft of N180,000 burglary-proof windows, iron in Ogun

A 30-year-old man, Sefiu Alayande, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta for stealing iron worth N180,000.

The convict was arraigned on three counts of theft, THE PUNCH reports.

On the first count, Alayande was said to have stolen a big iron valued at N70,000, belonging to one Haruna Akanni in the Soyeye area of Abeokuta.

On the second count, he was accused of stealing four burglary-proof windows valued at N80,000, belonging to one Ismail Akanni.

He said, “The convict stole those items to give to his customers who paid him to make the items after he had squandered their money; he stole from his counterpart welders.”

Giving the judgement, Magistrate O.M. Somefun sentenced Alayande to 24-month imprisonment without an option of fine.
