COURT JAILS HIM 0NE YEAR! Man steals chequebook, forges signature, withdraws N150, 000 from account

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced one Mr Sakiru Ayoola, 48, to one-year imprisonment for signature forgery.

Ayoola of no fixed address was arraigned on a one-count of forgery.

The convict pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Williams, said that all evidence tendered before her proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.

She sentenced him to one-year imprisonment without an option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 7, 2017 at about 10:00 am at the First Bank Plc in Panseke Abeokuta.

Shonibare said the accused stole a chequebook belonging to one Mr Ajasa Oloyede, forged his signature and withdrew N150, 000 from his account.

He added that Ayoola went back to the bank a second time to make another withdrawal of N250, 000 when the cashier discovered that the signature was forged, he was immediately arrested and handed over to the police.

Shonibare said the offence contravened Sections 383(1)(2)(a) and 465 of the Criminal Law of Ogun 2006.
