The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with disciplinary actions against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order on Tuesday following an ex parte application filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team.
The senator, representing Kogi Central, was summoned by the committee after a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.
The Senate later referred her to the disciplinary panel for review.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan has maintained that her troubles in the Senate stem from her refusal to accept alleged sexual advances from Akpabio, a claim she made in a February 28 interview on Arise TV.
The court’s ruling temporarily halts the Senate’s disciplinary process, pending further legal proceedings on the matter.
