An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court has postponed the assault case against popular singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, to March 26.

The adjournment is to allow the prosecution to merge his charges with those of his workers.

When the case resumed on Wednesday, following Portable’s arraignment on February 20, the Senior State Counsel, Timilehin Oredein, told the court that hearing the cases separately would waste judicial time.

Oredein explained that Portable’s case was linked to another involving his nine workers, who were also arraigned on February 6 on similar charges. He urged the court to set a short date for merging and substituting the charges.

Portable and his workers are facing five counts, including conspiracy, assault, and unlawful obstruction. They were allegedly armed with cutlasses and a gun, engaging in actions likely to disturb public peace.

The charges also include allegedly assaulting three officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

The court granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case to March 26 for the merged charges to be presented.
