Controversy arise as fire guts popular market in Yaba

A wave of controversy has been stirred, following reports of a fire outbreak at Yaba Market on Sunday, October 16.

It was reported that 94 out of the 201 shops located at the popular Yaba Market in Lagos, opposite the Presbyterian Church, were razed, with goods worth billions of naira destroyed.

There were claims that the fire was started on purpose as to destroy things belonging to the Igbos, however, counter claims have it that not only shops belonging to the Igbos were engulfed.

In other reactions, one Okafo Obiora said: “If tejuso market was burnt , for the new market to be built, if the new shops were not taken or rejected, by the traders , and their shops were burnt, then it is obvious that it is done for them to come and take the shops they rejected , the new builders should be investigated.”

On Mr charlie aired his views saying: “They had to burn the shops to market their expensive stores. No body will take it because ist is very expensive. Burn as you like, next will be Street hawking will increase. Robbery also to follow.”
