Construction of laboratory in Alimosho Hospital ‘ll improve services to patients- MD

The ongoing construction of a new laboratory at Alimosho General Hospital in the Igando area of Lagos State is funded by an NGO, Global Fund will improve services to patients when completed.

Dr. Madewa Adebajo, the hospital Medical Director, made this known in an interview with the Newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

Adebajo said that the ongoing construction of a laboratory in the hospital would also enhance prompt services to the patients.

“This is a project financed by Global Fund, under the auspices of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, which identified Alimosho General Hospital and Ikorodu General Hospital, as beneficiaries.

“As a recipient of this laudable scheme, the hospital is gear toward main laboratory accreditation that is measurable with the international standard.

“This capital project has reached 70 percent completion.

“It will be formally launched when completed with a view of ensuring specialized laboratory services as an aid to all medical procedures within the facility,” he said.

Adebajo said that the laboratory, to be accredited in line with the international standard, would become a citadel of medical research and knowledge for medical students.

The medical director said that the initiative would also help in reducing exposure of patients, coming in for test results, to activities binding laboratory procedural routines.

“An average laboratory is supposed to be out of bounds to non-laboratory staff; so, there won’t be any contamination when handling investigative samples from patients.

“This will basically reduce movement within the laboratory area, even as it curbs interruptions from patients and also reduce exposure to hazardous microbes that are harmful to health,” he said.

According to him, the edifice comprises four rooms for presentation, store for storage of medical consumables, a waiting area, and a lounge to provide comfort for prospective patients.

Adebajo said that the laboratory, when put to use, would also generate more income for the hospital.

“Revenue is proportional to patients’ satisfaction, and if patients are satisfied with our services, they won’t compromise patronage.

“Evidently, they would not want to go elsewhere, and this would definitely increase revenue for the hospital,” he said.
