A set of conjoined twins delivered by medical experts at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on October 5, have died.

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, confirmed the development in an interview on Monday.

Fabamwo said that the twins were joined from up to down, which he said, was a very complex type of conjoined twins.

He said that the twins also had congenital heart issues that were not compatible with life.

The first twin died on October 15, and the second twin died on October 16, before doctors could intervene to separate them.

The first twin had congenital heart issues that weren’t compatible with life. When you have abnormalities like that, there are usually other abnormalities in the body. She was the first that died on October 15.

“When it happened, we quickly moved to separate them by assembling a team of multispecialty experts from LASUTH and other hospitals. However, before we could intervene, the second twin died,” Fabamwo said.

Fabamwo said that the successful delivery of the twins was a milestone for the hospital, as it was the first time that conjoined twins had been delivered at LASUTH.
