Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Africa’s wealthiest businessman, Aliko Dangote, recently met with Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi to discuss potential investments in the mining and agricultural sectors.

President Tshisekedi, inaugurated for his second term in January, welcomed the discussions with Obasanjo and Dangote, recognizing the potential benefits of partnering with one of Africa’s most prominent investors.

In a statement released by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Friday, the former President highlighted the purpose of their visit.

He mentioned that besides extending congratulations to President Tshisekedi on his re-election, they were there to provide updates on the progress of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council.

Obasanjo emphasized the friendly nature of the meeting, focusing on strengthening economic ties and exploring avenues for closer integration between Nigeria and the DRC through initiatives like the DRC-Nigeria Business Council.

“The meeting was a friendly one. It was about congratulating President Tshisekedi on his re-election and the quality of the inauguration ceremony. I also came to inform him about the progress made within the framework of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council.

“Finally, it was about seeing within the framework of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council, which allows for closer ties, facilitation, and economic integration between our countries, how we could benefit from one of our biggest investors Aliko Dangote,” the statement read.

Dangote expressed his intentions to make substantial investments in the DRC, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors. Seeking President Tshisekedi’s support for his investment plans, Dangote emphasized the importance of receiving the President’s endorsement.

The discussions underscore the growing interest of Nigerian investors in exploring opportunities in the DRC and fostering economic cooperation between the two nations
