Confed Cup: Rivers Utd coach Eguma warns team against complacency

Published

Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma has urged his team to stay humble and keep striving for improvement despite their 1-0 win over Club Africain of Tunisia in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Captain Nyima Nwagua’s late goal secured three points for the Pride of Rivers, but Eguma cautioned against complacency.

“We’re grateful for the win, but we have other strong teams in the group,” he stated. “This is not the time for celebration. We have more games to play.”

Looking ahead to their next encounter, Eguma emphasized the importance of staying disciplined. “We’ll go back to Tunis with a clean slate and focus on the challenges ahead,” he said.

Eguma praised his players for their tactical discipline, acknowledging the high-quality opposition. “It was a challenging game against a strong and tactical team,” he admitted. “Our tactical plans worked because the players followed instructions.”

Rivers United’s victory makes them the third Nigerian club to defeat Club Africain, following BCC Lions and Enyimba.

With six points from three games, they share the top spot in Group C with Club Africain. Both teams face crucial matches ahead as they vie for a place in the knockout stages.
