Gunmen Behead Youth President, Shoot Aide Dead in Rivers
Meanwhile, Omoku town in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State was thrown into shock on Thursday evening following a deadly attack by suspected cultists that claimed the lives of two people, including the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu.

The attack occurred at about 6pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, in Omoku, the headquarters of the local government area.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, numbering about seven, arrived in two vehicles and immediately singled out their target.

Reports indicated that upon sighting Azuazu, the gunmen pointed their weapons at him and ordered him into one of the vehicles.

The situation escalated when Chigozie Oluwu, identified as the youth leader’s personal aide, attempted to intervene. He was instantly shot dead by the assailants.

The gunmen then abducted Comrade Azuazu and fled the scene.

The incident triggered panic in the area, as residents and passersby ran for safety, while shop owners hastily closed their businesses amid fears of further attacks.

Hope that the abducted youth leader would be rescued alive was dashed on Friday afternoon when the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) confirmed the recovery of his headless body in a forest in Omoku.

Confirming the development in a telephone interview, the OSPAC spokesperson in the area, Mr Godnews Nkem, said the corpse of Comrade Azuazu was discovered several hours after he was taken by the gunmen.
