Comedian Dee-One accuses police of attempted abduction

Nigerian comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Dee-One (Aderombi Adedayo Martin), has declared he will go alone to honour a police invitation he claims is a politically motivated attempt to kidnap him following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu.

In a defiant video posted on social media, Dee-One stated that the invitation from the Force Intelligence Department in Lagos stems from a recent clip in which he addressed President Tinubu’s son, Seyi, urging him to tell his father “to go and rest.” The comedian referenced President Tinubu’s recent stumble during a state visit to Turkey, framing his comments as concern for the president’s health and leadership capacity.

He said in the video, “My invitation was politically motivated. And let it be clear, Nigerian police and Nigerian army, stay away from politics.”

Dee-One warned against anyone pleading for his freedom, stating, “Anybody who begged for my freedom, God will punish you, punish your family.” He announced he had engaged the Falana and Falana law chamber for his defense and would attend the police station alone.

“You know that I have the best defense lawyer in the whole of Africa, Falana and Falana Chamber. I have called them. I said, I will go alone. I want to see what Nigerian police will do to me today,” he declared.

He accused the police of attempting to locate his residence to kidnap him, directly addressing an officer: “For Nigerian police to want to know where I stay, to want to kidnap me. Joseph Fani, you and your team.”

However, a calmer voice off-camera repeatedly interjected, urging caution and referring to the summons as “just an invitation.” The person said, “Wait, wait, wait. Is an invitation. Let’s go there and hear from Nigerian police first. For now, we don’t know what is happening.”

Dee-One’s original video, posted days earlier, questioned President Tinubu’s physical fitness, drawing comparisons with the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. The comedian insisted his message was rooted in concern, not mockery.
