Popular comedian, Ayo Makun popularly called AY, has revealed the reason that the exclusive nightclub he opened amid pomp and ceremony in highbrow city of Lekki Phase1 crumbled.
The nightclub, which was christened ‘MVP Lounge,’ an acronym for Most Valuable Player, started operation in 2014.
The club housed a bar, restaurant, game room, karaoke room, gold and diamond rooms with an all-purpose lounge occupying the penthouse floor of Omisson Emporium Mall.
The comedian, who is known to be blunt, disclosed that the business flopped because he neither understand his own strength or what it takes to operate such venture.
According to him, he was solely banking on his past success with AY Live and packaging of similar other shows to run the business.
Speaking during an Instagram live interview monitored, the comedian explained that he didn’t know that venturing into any business of such magnitude was a ‘different calling’ entirely.
“I once entered a business that I did not understand. I am very open, there is nothing to hide. There was a time I opened a nightclub.
“I opened a nightclub with the thought that ‘My name is AY’, I do shows at Eko Hotel, six thousand people attend. If I do my show in Abuja, thousands of people will also come.
“So I asked myself if I open a beer parlour, will I not be able to gather two hundred people in a weekend? I did not understand that it’s a different calling.
“That I can gather six thousand people at Eko Hotel does not mean I have the capacity to gather two hundred people on a Friday night.
Speaking further, the filmmaker noted that the lesson he learnt from his experience was that every individual should know their strength.
