The Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has confirmed that 10 persons lost their lives with nine others rescued so far from the rubble of the ill-fated 21-storey building that collapsed on Monday along Gerard Road in Ikoyi.

Hamzat made the statement when he paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the site on Tuesday.

While disclosing that the State is concerned about how to safely evacuate the trapped victims from the debris, the deputy governor revealed that two more bodies have been rescued from the collapsed building.

“What we are presently doing is search and rescue mission. We took out two more people today and they have been taken to the hospital. That makes the total number of rescued victims nine in all. We appeal for calm as we continue with the rescue operation,” he confirmed.

Recall that WuzupNigeria reported on Monday about how several construction workers including the Managing Director, Fourscore Heights Limited, Mr Femi Osibona, who owned the building, some clients and engineers were trapped in the collapsed structure.

Eyewitnesses said that the building crumbled around 2pm when workers were still on the site.
