Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, has reportedly apologised to his family and company after a viral video showed him getting cosy with his HR chief, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert in Boston.
The pair were caught on the kiss cam while hugging, but quickly separated when the camera zoomed in on them. The band’s lead singer, Chris Martin, commented on stage saying, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The video spread across social media, drawing heavy criticism and allegations of an affair. Byron has now issued a statement, though it is yet to be verified.
“I want to acknowledge the moment that’s been circulating online, and the disappointment it’s caused,” Byron wrote in the statement shared on social media.
“What was supposed to be a night of music and joy turned into a deeply personal mistake playing out on a very public stage. I want to sincerely apologise to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer. You deserve better from me as a partner, as a father, and as a leader,” he added.
Byron further said, “This is not who I want to be or how I want to represent the company I helped build. I’m taking time to reflect, to take accountability, and to figure out the next steps, personally and professionally. I ask for privacy as I navigate that process.”
He also criticised the exposure of the moment, saying, “I also want to express how troubling it is that what should have been a private moment became public without my consent. I respect artists and entertainers, but I hope we can all think more deeply about the impact of turning someone else’s life into a spectacle.”
Byron ended his message by quoting Coldplay’s famous song, saying, “As a friend once sang: ‘Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.’”
Astronomer is yet to release an official comment on the incident.
