Coco Gauff beat Emma Navarro to reach Auckland classic final

Coco Gauff secured her place in the ABS Classic final in Auckland with a decisive straight-set victory over Emma Navarro, paving the way for a showdown with Elina Svitolina.

The 19-year-old US Open champion showcased dominance, in a commanding 6-3, 6-1 win, claiming 93% of points on her first serve, including an impressive 10 aces. 

Gauff, who has yet to drop a set in the tournament, capitalized on four out of five break points and held her serve throughout, leaving no room for Navarro to gain momentum.

The American tennis sensation expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “Definitely a good start to my 2024; Emma’s an incredible player.” 

Gauff emphasized her aggressive approach in serving and returning, acknowledging the need to be at her best against Navarro.

The rain-interrupted match saw Gauff maintain her strong start, securing a 4-2 lead in the opening set before a brief pause. 

Upon the resumption of play, she continued her dominance, clinching the first set with ease. In the second set, Gauff further tightened her grip, breaking Navarro’s serve in the opening game and extending her lead after a miss-hit by Navarro in the fifth game. T

his victory sets up a final clash with Elina Svitolina, as Gauff gears up for the Australian Open commencing on January 14.
