Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star and music producer, Chukwuka Ekweani, known as CKay, has officially ended his contract with Warner Music South Africa.
The decision was confirmed in a statement on Friday morning. CKay, who became a global name with hit songs like Love Nwantiti and Emiliana, said the move was both “mutual and strategic.”
“Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was a very important one, which I’m grateful for,” CKay said. “Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and new horizons.”
CKay’s time with the record label saw him rise to international fame. His songs have been streamed over two billion times, making him one of the top music exports from Africa.
A source close to the singer, who spoke anonymously, said CKay’s fans should expect something new very soon.
“Fans can expect a fresh wave of music and direction in the coming weeks,” the source said.
CKay has been praised for his unique sound and global reach. In 2022, he was listed by *Time Magazine as one of the Next Generation Leaders. His song Emiliana also earned a platinum certification in France.
The singer has not yet revealed his next steps, but fans and industry watchers are already eager to see where his journey goes next.
