Some federal civil servants have confirmed receiving credit alerts on Tuesday for the payment of the N35,000 wage award under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure.
According to The PUNCH, one civil servant, who pleaded anonymity, verified that they have only received payment for the month of September, falling short of the two months’ payment they were promised.
“Yes I did receive it. I saw the alert about 15 minutes ago. I think it is for September because the alert indicated September,” he said
Another civil servant said they expect to receive another alert for the month of October, as the President had stated that the wage increase would commence from September.
The approval of the N35,000 wage award was granted by President Bola Tinubu following a meeting between representatives of the Federal Government and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
The meeting was held to avert a planned nationwide strike by the unions in protest against the removal of petrol subsidies.
On Monday, the Federal Executive Council approved a supplementary budget of N2.12 trillion to ensure that budgetary allocations are appropriately adjusted to accommodate the wage increase and other necessary expenditures.
