President Bola Tinubu has restated his commitment to safeguarding Nigerians of all religious backgrounds and fostering peaceful coexistence nationwide.
In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message, the President described Christmas as a period for reflecting on the birth of Jesus Christ and His message of peace, hope, and goodwill to humanity.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” Tinubu said. He also extended warm Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world.
The President expressed gratitude to God for the privilege of serving as Nigeria’s leader and offered prayers for peace in the country, especially among people of diverse religious beliefs.
He noted that Nigerians, regardless of background, have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity, emphasizing that no one should be persecuted for their faith.
Tinubu acknowledged the role of Christians in national development, stating that the love of Christ and the message of the Gospel have inspired many to support the vulnerable and less privileged in society.
He further commended Christians who emulate the example of Jesus by promoting peace, harmony, and tolerance within their communities, adding that the Christmas season serves as a reminder that, despite prevailing challenges, God remains present with the people.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to protect the nation’s security, unity, and stability, describing the commitment as unwavering under God and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He disclosed that he had engaged leaders of the country’s two major faiths during the year, particularly in response to concerns over religious intolerance and insecurity, noting that such engagements would be strengthened to encourage peaceful coexistence.
As Nigerians embark on holiday travels, Tinubu urged citizens to remain patient and disciplined on the roads, while wishing travellers safe journeys and returns.
“With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria—one that future generations will be proud of,” Tinubu said.
