Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo, has spread Christmas cheer in Abia State after surprising residents with cash gifts during the festive season.

The Abia-born football star shared a video on her Instagram page on Christmas Day, showing moments she handed out money to people across Umuahia.

In the viral clip, Okoronkwo was seen stopping motorists, meeting traders, shoppers and pedestrians, and giving each person a cash gift.

The striker, who plays for Canadian Northern Super League side, AFC Toronto, revealed that each beneficiary received N200,000.

Sharing the video, she simply wrote, “Merry Christmas.”

The kind gesture has drawn praise online, with many Nigerians applauding the footballer for remembering her roots and giving back to her community.

Okoronkwo’s show of generosity comes after a successful year in her football career. She played a major role in the Super Falcons’ victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria won a record-extending 10th title.

She was named the Super Falcons’ Fans’ Player of the Tournament and also emerged as the Woman of the Match in the final.

Following her impressive performance at the tournament, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, honoured her for making the state and the country proud.

The video of her visit continues to circulate widely on social media, with residents and fans describing the act as thoughtful and inspiring.
