The Ebonyi State Government has confirmed that the recent cholera outbreak has claimed three more lives, bringing the death toll to 13.

The outbreak occurred in Ndibokote village of Ezza Inyimagu and Ndiogbaga Obashi community in the Izzi Local Government Area.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, shared this update on Saturday in Abakaliki. He also reported that a total of 69 cases have been confirmed across the state.

“We have 69 confirmed cases and 13 deaths recorded from the cholera outbreak. Most of the deaths happened in Ndibokote village and Ndiogbaga Obashi community,” Ekuma said.

The commissioner reassured the public that the state government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, responded quickly to the outbreak. “The rapid response team from the state Ministry of Health was immediately sent to the affected communities for quick intervention,” he added.

Ekuma emphasized that patients under treatment are showing positive signs of recovery and no new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.

He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspected cholera cases to local health facilities or the state’s Health Center for Disease Control. He also advised the public to follow preventive measures to help stop the spread of the disease.

“There is no need for panic. The government is doing everything possible to manage the situation,” Ekuma said.
