China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO Group), a state-owned defence company, is preparing to unveil its Fuxi special-purpose humanoid robot at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, with the machine designed for all-weather reconnaissance, intelligent patrols and operations in hazardous environments.
The system also allows human operators to remotely direct the robot’s movements in real time.
According to Global Times, NORINCO Group on Tuesday hinted that the robot, combined with a specially developed teleoperation system, is intended to create a human-machine operating model based on “remote human control and on-site robotic operations.”
The Fuxi will be among the exhibits at the 2026 World Robot Conference, scheduled to take place in Beijing from Wednesday to Sunday. The World Robot Expo, which will run alongside the conference, is expected to display more than 2,000 products from over 300 exhibitors, including more than 150 debut exhibits, according to information released by Beijing authorities in July.
NORINCO Group is heading the central state-owned enterprise (SOE) exhibition section, where several of its affiliated institutes will present their latest technologies. The Fuxi humanoid robot will be part of a wider display that includes intelligent military equipment focused on individual protection, intelligent computing and situational awareness, the company said.
The conference’s opening ceremony will also include a video announcement on the formation of a central SOE robot innovation consortium, with NORINCO Group serving as its leader.
According to NORINCO, Fuxi is a full-size humanoid robot developed independently by its innovation institute using fully domestically developed technologies.
The project incorporates technologies involving human-motion perception, motion transfer between different robotic platforms and whole-body coordinated control. In sentry applications, the robot can identify personnel and issue warnings when it detects abnormal situations.
Fuxi is additionally intended to undertake reconnaissance in various weather conditions, intelligent patrol duties and replacement operations in dangerous environments. NORINCO said multiple units can operate in formation, while an individual robot can reproduce the movements of a human operator with precision and in real time during remote-controlled missions.
The remote-control function is enabled by a dedicated teleoperation system known as “external avatar.” The company described the technology as China’s first independently controllable teleoperation solution for full-size humanoid robots weighing approximately 90 kilograms.
NORINCO said the system has made advances in real-time human-motion remapping and teleoperation technology. It is designed for complicated and high-risk environments, where it can be used for remote reconnaissance, unmanned missions and specialised response operations.
By allowing people to control robots remotely while the machines carry out activities at the scene, the system offers what NORINCO described as a new approach to unmanned operations in specialised environments.
A group of Fuxi robots will also conduct a nighttime urban inspection demonstration at the event, highlighting their ability to coordinate with one another. The demonstration is built around “multi-robot coordinated management, intelligent assessment and closed-loop response,” according to the release, with the objective of speeding up the transition of emerging technologies into practical applications.
In addition to Fuxi, the Hangzhou Zhiyuan Research Institute has developed an intelligent military equipment portfolio spanning personal protection, intelligent computing and situational awareness, broadening NORINCO’s military technology presentation.
The institute’s latest lightweight protective equipment includes ballistic helmets and ballistic plates that comply with a range of Chinese and international protection standards. The products can be combined into an integrated head-and-body protection system intended for applications such as counterterrorism and emergency response, overseas peacekeeping and special-operations training, the company said.
The institute has also produced a mobile resilient edge-cloud system that NORINCO described as the first edge-cloud product in China’s defence industry to obtain trusted-cloud certification. Developed entirely with domestic technologies and independently controllable, the system is intended to serve as an intelligent computing platform for coordinated operations involving large unmanned swarms.
Another exhibit is a pair of enhanced-vision glasses combining an augmented-reality see-through display, low-light and infrared thermal-imaging fusion, millimetre-level spatial positioning and multimodal hands-free controls. The equipment is designed to allow users to keep their hands free during missions while facilitating cooperation between manned and unmanned systems.
The institute will also display a range of non-military intelligent products, including a walking-assistance exoskeleton, wearable ducted-fan aircraft, a two-seat intelligent hybrid aircraft, a power-assisted towing robot and an intelligent robotic guide dog.
NORINCO Group said 18 of its affiliated units will participate in the exhibition, bringing 68 products spanning robotics and associated intelligent technologies. The exhibits include humanoid robots, intelligent military equipment, exoskeletons, aircraft and other robotic systems developed for a variety of operational and practical applications.
The showcase comes as this year’s World Robot Conference places increased attention on practical deployment. Organisers said they will introduce a “Global Robot Application Exploration Initiative,” under which leading companies will bring mass-produced humanoid robots, quadruped robots and dexterous hands for innovation teams to test in real-world environments.
