Chima Udoye has emerged as the winner of the ninth season of the popular music reality show, Nigerian Idol.

After several weeks of intense performances and rigorous training, Chima was declared the winner on Sunday night.

The competition began with ten contestants, but after fierce battles and impressive performances, only three finalists remained: Chima, Lammy, and Chioma. During the final performance, each contestant gave their best to convince the judges and viewers that they deserved to win the coveted prize.

Chioma excited viewers with her rendition of Jodie’s “Kuchi Kuchi” and Jennifer Hudson’s “One Night Only.” Chima’s soulful delivery of “Not the Girl” by Dare Art Alade and “As” by Stevie Wonder left the judges in awe. Lammy impressed the audience with his heartfelt performance of “African Queen” by 2baba and Alexandra Burke’s “Hallelujah.”

The grand finale was an intense event that started with an inspiring rendition of John Legend’s “Glory” by all ten contestants. Special appearances from past winners of Nigerian Idol, Progress and Victory Gbakara, added to the excitement. The audience also enjoyed guest performances by Chike and Simi before the top three took the stage for their final performances.

With great anticipation, host Ik Osakioduwa finally announced the winner. “Chima!” he declared, bringing the audience to their feet.

Omawumi, one of the judges, praised Chima for showcasing his growth throughout the competition. “Chima competed primarily against himself, and his growth was incredible to watch,” she said. Busola Tejumola, the executive head of content and channels at MultiChoice, commended Chima’s resilience.

Chima’s prize package includes 30 million naira in cash, a brand new SUV, a music deal with a music video, and a DStv Explora with a one-year premium subscription.

Expressing his joy, Chima said, “Winning Nigerian Idol is a dream come true. I am grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who supported me.”
