In addition to dealing with sex abuse charges, embattled R&B veteran singer, R.Kelly, is also reportedly facing jail time for not paying child support.
According to TMZ, a Chicago judge found Kelly in contempt after he failed to cough up nearly $170,000 in support of his ex-wife Drea.
The singer has until March 6 to pay up or he’ll be locked away in Cook County.
Recall that R. Kelly, is facing life in prison if convicted of new child sex allegations, experts have said.
The singer was formally charged with 10 counts of criminal sexual abuse early Saturday, and Attorney Michael Avenatti is certain R. Kelly won’t not survive the latest charges.
The 52-year-old got hit with a “no bail” warrant on Friday.
Legal experts told the station that prosecutors will likely file a motion asking for no bond.
“It’s discretionary with the judge,” explained former Cook County prosecutor Robert Milan. “They can essentially argue he’s a threat to society — that this is an ongoing pervasive behavior on his part against young girls and it has to stop.”
Kelly is expected to face life in prison, if convicted — and “serious jail time” even if he cuts a deal, the experts said.
“There’s no reason to think right now that he won’t try to fight this,” explained legal analyst Gil Soffer. “If he gives up he is looking at some serious, serious jail time.”
