Chelsea defeat Tottenham to enter Carabao Cup final

Published

Chelsea have booked a place in the final of the Carabao Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) in their semifinal clash on Wednesday night.

The Blues cruised into the last two of the competition with a convincing victory over their London rivals thanks to Antonio Rudiger who beat Pierluigi Gollini with an 18th-minute header.

Antonio Conte’s men came into the semi-final second leg trailing by 2-0 after an away defeat in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

But Spurs were left more frustrated in front of their home fans when the VAR overturned penalty decisions during either side of the half-time break.

Top striker Harry Kane was clipped by Chelsea’s defence in the first leg and his misery was compounded in the second leg when he scored in the 63rd-minute only to be ruled out for offside.

Referee Andre Marriner however paused the game in the 87th minute due to a medical emergency in the South Stand.

A supporter was in need of medical assistance, according to UK Sun as stewards in high-vis jackets congregated around the incident in the lower half of the South Stand.

After five minutes, the game resumed with eight minutes of stoppage time but the Blues held on to enter the league cup final for a ninth time in their history.

Thomas Tuchel’s side awaits the winner of the second semi-final clash between Arsenal and Liverpool in the final.

The first leg of the second all-Premier League semi-final takes place at Anfield tomorrow evening.

The winner of the two-legged encounter will face Chelsea in the final at Wembley on February 27 on the line.
