Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich has dashed Jose Mourinho’s hope of a reunion with Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.
According to reports, Mourinho was keen on purchasing the left-footed midfielder to join him in Manchester United having signed him for Chelsea in January 2014.
However, reports say Abramovich has told Matic that he does not want to sell him.
It was gathered that United made an enquiry about the 27-year-old but authorities in Stamford Bridge say he will be staying.
Matic was instrumental in Chelsea’s title win during the 2014/15 season but was one of several players who struggled to produce their top form during the last campaign.
His relationship with Mourinho was not the best but the Mail state he would have been happy to work under the Portuguese boss again as he thought a change of environment would have benefited him.
Serie A champions Juventus are also reported to be in pursuit of the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are hoping to complete the signing of N’Golo Kante from Premier League champions Leicester before the season starts.
