Candidates can now check their 2026 WAEC results following the release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination results.
According to Punch, the West African Examinations Council announced the release on Wednesday and directed candidates to generate or recover their result checker PIN before accessing their results.
Candidates can view their results through the official WAEC result portal at https://www.waecdirect.org. Those who do not have their PIN and serial number can recover them through https://www.waec.org.
What you need to check your 2026 WAEC results
Before checking your result, ensure you have the following details:
Your 10-digit examination number
Your examination year
Your examination type
Your WAEC result checker serial number
Your result checker PIN
The examination number contains the candidate’s seven-digit centre number followed by the three-digit candidate number.
For example, a candidate whose centre number is 4123456 and candidate number is 789 will use 4123456789.
How to recover your WAEC PIN and serial number
Candidates who do not have their result checker PIN and serial number can recover them through WAEC’s official website.
Step 1: Visit the WAEC website
Go to https://www.waec.org using an internet-enabled phone, tablet or computer.
Step 2: Select the PIN option
Click the “Serial Number and PIN” option displayed at the top of the website.
Step 3: Enter your examination details
Select 2026 as the examination year and choose the appropriate examination diet.
Enter your 10-digit examination number and the National Identification Number used during registration.
Step 4: Provide your contact details
Enter your active email address and phone number.
WAEC will send a One-Time Password to the contact details provided.
Step 5: Complete the recovery process
Enter the OTP and follow the instructions to recover your serial number and PIN.
Candidates can also download their WAEC identification cards through the portal.
How to check your 2026 WAEC results online
After obtaining your PIN and serial number, follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit the WAEC result portal
Open https://www.waecdirect.org on your phone, tablet or computer.
Step 2: Enter your examination number
Type your 10-digit examination number in the space provided.
Ensure you enter the correct centre and candidate numbers to avoid receiving an error message.
Step 3: Select the examination year
Choose 2026 from the list of available examination years.
Step 4: Select the examination type
Choose WASSCE for School Candidates or the examination category that applies to you.
Step 5: Enter your serial number
Type the serial number generated or recovered from https://www.waec.org.
Step 6: Enter your PIN
Provide the result checker PIN attached to your examination details.
Step 7: Submit your information
Check that all the details are correct before clicking “Submit.”
Your result should appear on the screen after the portal processes the information. You can print, download or save it for future use.
How to check your WAEC result through SMS
Candidates without internet access can also check their results through SMS.
Open the messaging application on your phone and type the message in this format:
WAEC*ExaminationNumber*PIN*ExaminationYear
For example:
WAEC*4123456789*123456789012*2026
Send the message to 32327.
Do not include spaces in the message. Standard SMS charges will apply.
The result should be delivered to the phone number used to send the message.
How to check your result with the WAEC mobile app
Candidates can also use the WAEC Result Checker application.
Visit the Google Play Store and search for “WAEC Result Checker.”
Download and open the application.
Enter your examination number and select 2026 as the examination year.
Provide your serial number and PIN before submitting the information.
Your result will appear on the screen and can be saved to your device.
Understanding WAEC grades
WAEC grades range from A1 to F9.
A1 represents an excellent performance.
B2 and B3 represent very good and good performances.
C4, C5 and C6 are credit passes.
D7 and E8 are ordinary passes.
F9 represents a failure.
Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian higher institutions are generally expected to have at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics. However, requirements may differ according to the institution and course.
What to do if the WAEC portal is not working
The result portal may respond slowly when many candidates try to access it at the same time.
Confirm that your internet connection is stable and try again after a few minutes.
Also ensure that your examination number, examination year, examination type, serial number and PIN are correct.
Candidates who receive an “outstanding” or “result withheld” message should continue checking the portal for updates from WAEC.
Anyone who believes there is an error in their result should contact WAEC through its official channels or visit the nearest WAEC office.
Candidates should only use https://www.waec.org to recover their PIN and https://www.waecdirect.org to check their results. They should avoid unofficial websites requesting personal details or payments.
